Melbourne works trams

Melbourne has had a fleet of works trams used for various tasks such as track cleaning and repair. Most have now been withdrawn from service with such tasks now being undertaken using motor vehicles. The following is a selection of pictures of such trams.

    Bogie track cleaning tram number 7 was pictured at the Tramway Museum Society (Inc) museum at Bylands.

    Single truck track cleaning tram number 9w was pictured at the Bendigo Trust Depot in April 2003. 9w was originally constructed as a "Q" class passenger tram before being converted to a track cleaning tram by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board.

    Single truck track cleaning tram number 10w was pictured at the rear of Brunswick Depot shortly before its withdrawal from service and transfer to the Tramway Museum Society (Inc) museum at Bylands. 10w was at the time owned by Swanston Trams (later M>Trams). Originally, it entered service as a "K"class passenger tram on the Sydney system, later being converted to a scrubber tram before being sold for service in Melbourne.

11w

    Single truck track cleaning tram number 11w was pictured in Nicholson Street, at Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. 11w is in the service of Yarra Trams and has been fitted with a pantograph. Like 10w, 11w originally entered service as a "K"class passenger tram on the Sydney system, later being converted to a scrubber tram before being sold for service in Melbourne.

    Sleeper transport tram number 16w was pictured at the Tramway Museum Society (Inc) museum at Bylands. 16w was originally constructed as a "Q"class passenger tram.
